on sale 是用來形容某物品特價的時候
The books are on sale. 書在特價中。
Women’s clothing is on sale this month. 女裝在本月有折扣。
What’s on sale in the store? 店裡有哪些東西在特價？
切記！
若要說「某間商店的商品正在打折」
不能直接把 on sale 加在「某間商店」後面
以下為錯誤的例子：
The mall is on sale. (x)
The store is on sale. (x)
這樣就變成整間店要以折扣的價格賣出
通常要形容一間店在打折，或是特殊節日的折扣，會直接用 sale。
The store is having a sale. 這間店在特價中。
Thanksgiving sale. 感恩節特賣。
Anniversary sale. 週年慶。
The department store is having a thanksgiving sale. 這間百貨公司正在舉行感恩節特價活動。
至於 for sale 又是什麼意思呢？
for sale 是待售的意思
若是非賣品就是 not for sale
This exquisite antique is not for sale. 這精美的古董是非賣品。
2. Discount 打折、折扣
想要形容商品有打折或打幾折的時候就可以用 discount
There is a 10 percent discount on all the items now. 目前所有商品打九折。
情境對話 A：
Customer: Excuse me. Is there any discount on that jacket?
客人：請問那件外套現在有打折嗎？
Clerk: Yes, you will get a 20 percent discount before 10/1.
店員：是的，在10月1號以前購買皆可享有8折優惠。
情境對話 B：
Customer: Excuse me. Is there any discount on the wallet?
客人：請問這個皮夾有折扣嗎？
Clerk: Well, I could give you a 15 percent discount if you buy it today. I can guarantee it’s the lowest you can get.
店員：如果你今天跟我買的話可以算你85折，我保證你找不到更便宜的了。3. X % Off
在國外的商店常常會看到 20% off, 30% off 的用語
那究竟 20% off 是打二折還是打八折？
只要這樣想就不會搞混了：
off 有去掉的意思
20% off 就是從原本的價格拿掉 20%
還剩 80%，也就是八折之前在台灣有一知名背包品牌
才剛發售不久，所有背包上就掛著一張 90% off 的牌子
奇怪，怎麼才開賣不久就要一折出清了！？
原來，他們是想要表示打九折，卻用錯了英文至於「幾折起」該怎麼表示呢？
六折起，就是 Up to 40% Off（最多拿掉40%）
三折起，就是 Up to 70% Off（最多拿掉70%）4. Special Offer 特價
special offer 平常有特別優待的意思
在買賣上也可以作為特價的意思Disney World is having a special offer for kids under 14 years old.
迪士尼世界給14歲以下的孩童特別優惠。
The potato chips were on special offer, so I bought them.
我買了洋芋片，因為它們在特價。5. Buy one Get one Free 買一送一
若要形容買幾送幾
就可以用 Buy _ Get _ Free
只要在空格內填入數字就可以了Buy two get one free. 買二送一。
Buy five get two free. 買五送二。至於第二件半價或是第三件六折要怎麼講呢？
意思是一樣的：Buy one, get one 50% off. 第二件半價
Buy two, get another one 40% off. 第三件六折6. Clearance 出清特賣
出清特賣常常出現在換季或是要關店的時候
Clearance 本身有清除和掃除的意思
用在買賣上面就是出清的意思
換季出清是 End of Season Sale 或 End of Season Clearance Sale7. Rebate 回扣
這是在美國很常用的一種折扣方式，在台灣很少人知道
而這種折扣通常需要你買了東西之後
填一些資料寄回公司
他們會再寄相當於折扣金額的支票給你
